WE LUPEC LADIES LOVE OUR BROWN SPIRITS.  And we also like simple takes on classics as a way to invent new drinks. We’d like to raise a glass to member Joy Richard, AKA Bourbon Belle, whose bar Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar took home a People’s Choice award at an event called the Bare Knuckle Bar Fight at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.  The event invited 7 bars from all over the US to create pop-up versions of their hometown watering holes and compete for the best in the country.  Something like 1OOO people attended the event and Citizen was the only contender from our fair city.  They shipped down a Fernet tap system, slushie machine with boozy creations, their very own citizen cheerleaders, and a whole mess of their popular bartenders to recreate the scene at Citizen, home to well over 1OO brown spirits.  And they took first place as people’s choice.  We’re so proud of Boaurbon Belle, we thought we’d take this chance to share her signature recipe.  It’s a simple twist on the Manhattan featuring Mathilde Peches liqueur – quite delicious. Here’s to Bourbon Belle, Boston and Belle’s entire team at the Citizen!

2 parts bourbon
1 part sweet vermouth
¼ part Peches Mathilde liqueur

Stir ingredients with ice.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
