On July 1O Martignetti Companies completed its acquisition of Commonwealth Wine & Spirits. In addition to a portfolio of fi ne wines and spirits Commonwealth is the exclusive distributor of E&J Gallo Winery brands in Massachusetts. This acquisition creates a new strategic relationship between the third generation-owned Martignetti Companies and E&J Gallo Winery the largest family-owned wine producer in the world. With this transaction, Martignetti Companies solidifies its position as the 7th largest wine and spirits distributor in the United States. Carmine and Carl Martignetti, principals of Martignetti Companies, said of the transaction:
“This acquisition represents a tremendous opportunity to begin a new strategic partnership with E&J Gallo Winery, one of the world’s preeminent wine companies, and at the same time to build
upon the demonstrated success of the Commonwealth organization in our marketplace.”
“We are excited to be working with Martignetti Companies as we know they will do a tremendous job of promoting the Gallo brands in Massachusetts,” said Joseph E. Gallo, President and Chief Executive Offi cer of E&J Gallo Winery. He added, “I have immense respect for the outstanding company the Martignetti family has built over the years and I truly value their reputation for great customer service.”

• Commonwealth will become a division of
Martignetti Companies. It will consist of an
exclusive selling organization for the E&J Gallo
brands, and will operate from the Martignetti
facility in Norwood.
• Additional brands in the Commonwealth
portfolio will be represented by other divisions
within the Martignetti organization.
• Customers can place their orders by using
either the Commonwealth phone number or the
Martignetti number.
• The delivery schedule will temporarily default
to the current Martignetti-Norwood schedule
until the company has had a chance to analyze and
modify the routes.
• Martignetti Companies will invoice all
Commonwealth transactions from Monday, July 13
forward but will be responsible for collecting all
pre-acquisition invoices through Friday, July 1O.
• The Commonwealth On-Premise Team will
continue to sell the complete multi-supplier
Commonwealth portfolio to their assigned base of
11OO+ accounts. All other accounts will be sold
Non Gallo products by the Carolina or Classic
sales rep currently in the account.
