CRAZY FOR CAVA

For the last couple of years Prosecco has been all the rage as Americans have fallen in love with the bubbly from Italy. But Cava, Spain’s national sparkling wine, is making waves of its own. Record exports have brightened up the country’s bleak sparkling wine domestic market as Cava producers sold a record breaking 152 million bottles to foreign markets in 2O11 – a 2% increase over 2O1O. However, poor domestic sales – compounded by an unemployment rate of more than 22% – were mainly to blame for a 2% decrease in overall sales in 2O11. As sparkling wine becomes more of an everyday product exports have grown steadily in the past decade, rising by almost 5O%, according to the regulatory body’s figures. Cavas offer high quality and great value to budget conscious consumers. It’s a win-win for all!
