AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEK

2O13 BEER STYLE GUIDELINES

The Brewers Association has released this year’s version of the “Beer Style Guidelines”. Updated annually, there are 142 styles of beer defined, up from 14O in 2O12. Compiling the guidelines annually is a collaborative effort, and the 2O13 version incorporates more than 1OO suggestions from US and international beer judges and experts, brewers and beer lovers. GOOSE ISLAND BEERS TAKE FLIGHT

Well, that didn’t take long. When Anheuser-Busch InBev purchased Chicago craft brewery Goose Island in 2O11 fans were concerned that it was just another corporate takeover. THE VINIFICATION OF BEER

The craft beer industry is nothing if not innovative. The latest trend to cause waves is with packaging. More and more craft brewers are housing their beers in large bottles. Last year, about 3.5% of craft beer was sold in traditional 22-ounce sizes, but sales are booming – up 12% year-on-year.
